I heard a great line while at a Cooper Conference that I have since tried to live by each day at work: "Designers should be people wranglers, not pixel pushers." To me, all the people wrangling is the fun part!
...But we all know that pixel pushing has to be part of the job, and I've gotten pretty good at it. I create assets from one end of the spectrum to the other, from sketches to pixel-perfect component specs using a variety of tools.
I spend my days at CoverMyMeds in Columbus, OH, pushing for UX to lead the company's charge to fulfill it's own mission: helping people get the medications they need to live healthy lives. It has been a great opportunity to lead the application of principles and approaches I had learned the past 6 years to a business that I believe can make a difference.
Speaking of the past 6 years, I worked at Chase for four of those. Most notably, I led the design team on a project that reimagined the ATM experience for millions of users, while cutting the costs of the branch operating model.
Then I spent a year at CarMax immersed in a true Lean UX product organization, inspired by Marty Cagan and Jeff Gothelf. I was the product designer on two different product teams: one focused on designing and building the design system to be used by the other digital product teams, and the other focused on generating organic traffic to the website through SEO. Those two, very different disciplines have proven to be hugely valuable for me to add to my UX toolbox.
